Allen, Kohls emerge as new tea party primary challengers to Kasich

3BP has learned that the Ohio tea party movement has found new candidates to support in a primary challenge against Governor Kasich for the Republican nomination.

A couple of weeks ago, they were behind Ted Stevenot and Brenda Mack. But Stevenot decided to pull out after it was revealed by 3BP and the Columbus Dispatch that Mack had past tax and legal issues.

In an email earlier today, Tom Zawistowki of the We the People Convention announced to statewide tea party leadership that Dr. Donald Allen of Youngstown and Dr. Kelly Kohls from southwest Ohio will attempt to make the Republican primary ballot. The following is an excerpt from the announcement:

I am pleased to inform you that there are two people who have notified us that they are willing to run against John Kasich in the Republican Primary – whom I am comfortable supporting. With this email I want to introduce them to you in the sincere hope that you and your members will join me in giving them your full support as well.

Some of you already know the Lt. Governor Candidate, who is Dr. Kelly Kohls. Dr. Kohls is the Chairman of the Warren County TEA Party and founder of the Ohio School Board Leadership Council.

Kelly has been a statewide leader in the fight against CommonCore and has been a strong member of the Liberty Movement since it began in Southwest Ohio. She personifies the values of our Liberty Movement. I am confident that you and your members will have no problem giving her your total support.

The second person most of you will not be familiar with and his name is Dr. Donald Allen, a veteranarian from the Youngstown area. I just became aware of Dr. Allen a week or so ago as we were looking to find someone who was qualified and willing to run for Governor.

Those of you in the 6th Congressional District will know him, because he ran against Congressman Bill Johnson in 2010 in the Repubican Primary where he lost by just a few thousand votes. I think you are going to like this guy, because he is very much like most of us, even though he has never formally been part of the TEA Party movement.

Allen and Kohls will need 1000 signatures to turn in by February 5th in order to make the ballot.
