Governor Kasich to formally enter presidential race on July 21st

On July 21st, Governor Kasich will officially launch his campaign for president. Thousands of Ohio Republicans have been waiting for this day after Kasich’s huge landslide reelection last November.

You can still claim your tickets to attend the event at The Ohio State University by visiting the newly launched website at www.JohnKasich.com. The doors will open at 9:30 at the student union.

Honestly, I can’t even begin to predict how I believe Kasich will fair in the primary. We are up to an incredible 16 candidates vying for the nomination. That alone makes the odds difficult for ANY candidate.

“Out of the entire field, Kasich has the most experience by far.”

Kasich’s challenges include relatively low name recognition outside of Ohio and a sometimes difficult relationship with more conservative Republicans. That could spell a disappointing result for him.

However, Kasich has a lot of strengths to talk about as he introduces himself to voters.

Out of the entire field, Kasich has the most experience by far. On the legislative side, he spent 18 years in Congress, including several years as the House Budget Committee Chairman during the last time the federal government ran a balanced budget.

After a few years in the private sector, he of course became the Ohio’s governor in 2011, easily winning reelection to a second term. Nobody else in the field has such an impressive list of legislative, executive and private sector experience.

Then there is his record as governor. He inherited a budget shortfall of nearly $8 billion, but worked with the legislature to balance the budget without raising taxes. After losing 350,000 jobs under the watch of former Governor Ted Strickland, Ohio has regained the same number back under Kasich.

The governor’s first test will be to make it on stage for the first debate of the season on August 6th. It will take place right here in Ohio and due to the large number of candidates, only the top 10 in aggregate polling will be allowed in the prime time event. As of this writing, he wouldn’t make the cut, but a natural boost from his official announcement may propel him high enough to earn his spot.

Kasich will sign Ohio’s biennial budget today. With that important state business taken care of, watch for Kasich to spend a LOT of time meeting voters in New Hampshire. Of the early voting primary states, New Hampshire will be where he makes his biggest play.
