Two days ago, we informed you of the emerging story regarding Ohio Democratic Party Chairman Chris Redfern and his candidacy for state representative for Ohio’s 89th district, which consists of Erie and Ottawa Counties. He doesn’t live there.
One of the main pieces of evidence is a press release on the ODP’s own website. The page is an announcement of who had been chosen as Ohio delegates to the Democratic National Convention. Towards the bottom there is a link that said “The full list is available online as a download here.” Clicking on that link brought up an Excel file listing all of the delegates and what city in Ohio they were from.
Why would they do this?
Because in that Excel file, Chairman Chris Redfern was listed as a delegate. And his residence was listed as Bexley, which is a suburb of Columbus. That’s over 100 miles from the 89th district.
While Chairman Redfern and his cohorts have been ignoring our questions about his residency on Twitter, the fact that they removed this file from their website shows that they are nervous. They certainly don’t like their chairman being exposed as a hypocrite.
Three years ago, Redfern himself had this to say about a similar controversy involving then-Senator Jon Husted:
“Overwhelming evidence, including utility records and media investigations, shows that Jon Husted does not reside at the Kettering house,” Redfern said. “Today’s ruling calls into question the legitimacy of Husted’s candidacy for Secretary of State, because someone running to be Ohio’s chief elections officer should follow Ohio elections law.”
The Ohio Supreme court ruled that since Husted intended to return to his Kettering home upon leaving the legislature, that he was not in the wrong.
Whether or not you agree with that ruling, Chris Redfern appears to have gone far beyond what Husted did.
- Husted did not own any other houses, Redfern owns two houses in the Columbus area.
- Husted never filed official state papers with the Secretary of State where he claimed residence outside his district, like Redfern did.
- Husted didn’t issue a press release with a different address than his district residence.
- Husted never listed his district residence for sale. Redfern’s house in the 89th district has been for sale since July.
Oh…one more thing. That Excel file? We downloaded it before they scrubbed it. You can download it here.
