Ohio Liberty Coalition now engaging in left-wing class warfare

Alternate title: How the OLC is turning off more and more people.

Everybody knows that the Ohio Liberty Coalition opposes Medicaid expansion in Ohio. I have no problem with that position at all. There is merit to both sides of the argument.

Our position is one of neutrality. As we told you before, if Ohio doesn’t expand Medicaid, it won’t save federal tax dollars. The federal government will just pay to put the same people on the Obamacare exchanges, so it ends up being a wash. By not revealing that fact to their members, the OLC is misleading people on the issue. This is where we have been disappointed in the tactics of their opposition.

But their latest behavior is just downright shameful. They now plan to resort to one of the most overused hands in the liberal playbook. Class warfare. You read that right. Ohio Tea Party leaders are planning on going after those evil rich people in their fight against Medicaid expansion.

COLUMBUS: Tea party activists in Ohio want to turn an enemy — the Internal Revenue Service — into an ally as they fight continued efforts to expand Medicaid.

In a confidential email sent to fellow Ohio tea party leaders and obtained by The Associated Press, Tom Zawistowski laid out a strategy for invoking a little-known IRS provision that allows citizens to challenge executive salaries and the nonprofit statuses of charitable hospitals.

In a phone interview Tuesday, Zawistowski called it “hilarious” that tea party groups that came under extra scrutiny by the IRS are now using an IRS law to target others.

Zawistowski identifies the hospitals as big backers of expanded Medicaid. His email said tea party groups will “make Medicaid personal” by publicizing large salaries of those seeking federal money to help the poor.

“I think it’s hilarious, and I think it’ll be fun to get some other groups who have maybe been on the sidelines and questioning us to see how they like being investigated,” he said.

It’s not hilarious, Tom. It’s sad.

What’s next? Are they going to go full Occupy Wall Street and hold rallies on the front lawns of their personal residences, too?

I’m reminded of some sage criticism that was made of Barack Obama’s class warfare tactics.

PRESIDENT’S CLASS WARFARE TACTICS ARE “CLASSLESS”

Finally, let me say to the President that his insistence on trying to divide our country according to class and income is in a word “classless” and un-befitting of our leader. This constant rhetoric pitting the rich against the poor is simply un-American.

Who said that? The very same gentleman who now thinks it’s hilarious to be classless.
