On the Ground with Bill Johnson

A reader, JT, was kind enough to send along her perspective from the campaign kickoff announcement last week of new Ohio 6th Congressional District candidate Bill Johnson:

This past Thursday evening at the Spread Eagle Tavern Bill Johnson finished up the last leg of his campaign kickoff tour announcing his candidacy for Ohio’s 6th Congressional District. Even though Bill had already made multiple stops earlier in the day – he was chock full of energy and excitement like he was stepping up to the podium for the first time!

The Spread Eagle is one of the “must visit” campaign stops in Ohio. Dating back to the heyday of the Canal Era, this brick Federal Style building offers a backdrop of prosperous Ohio history, that helps articulate the vision and goals of candidates like Bill Johnson.

You read a lot about people being fired up lately and excited about getting involved with the political process—especially with the emergence of the Tea Party movement over the past year or so. It was exciting to see first hand people from all different walks of life coming together to support Bill and his goal to take back the 6thfor the people! He was able to fire up the crowd—especially when hitting upon the topic of Jobs. He really nailed it when he said that he would, “spend all my time worried about your job and your neighbor’s job.” Bill talked about the problems everyone is facing like unemployment and businesses falling on hard times. He talked about finding real solutions and taking action to help the people in the 6th district. The members of the crowd sure don’t believe that the way to fix the 6th is through creating a bigger government, raising our taxes and digging our nation into debt with each passing day—they weren’t shy about letting him know that! From my standpoint Bill’s message really resonated with folks who braved the snow to make the trip. To Bill’s credit he was standing right next to a roaring fireplace during the entire announcement and didn’t miss a beat—must be that good Air Force background. Didn’t seem like the audience was in a hurry to leave either, most everybody hung around and grabbed a bite to eat at the Tavern.

Bill reminded everyone that he is not another inside the DC beltway politician, but that he is an American. He wrapped up by saying that his goal is to provide the people of the 6th district a voice in Washington. This is something that has NOT happened with Charlie “Big Spender” Wilson.
