Abortion: The Only Absolute Right

Apparently lines are being drawn in an incredibly dumb debate:

On one side, women’s rights advocates who say religion should play no role in their health care rights.  On the other, those who defend business owners who have strong religious views on issues like contraception.

“I feel like I’m a second class citizen when they go after us like this,” said Carol DePaola.  “It’s very frustrating because I did this back in the 70s and late 60s.  I was working for this.”

DePaola was one of about a dozen activists who met Tuesday to protest a letter Ohio attorney general Mike DeWine signed, along with 10 other Attorneys General, to Kathleen Sebelius, Secretary of Health and Human Services.

I wanted to dismiss this as the rantings of a fringe group of unhappy liberals, but leave it to Ohio Democrats to keep this thing going:

First off, it’s “women’s,” but I digress.  Please, oh liberal bastions of all that is good, tell me exactly how defending the Freedom of Religion is an “attack on women’s health [sic]?”  Because people would be required to buy their own condoms, birth control pills and abortifacients (i.e. the morning after pill), that somehow is an attack on women’s health?

Don’t sexually active men use contraceptives too?  At the very least, your weak criticisms are incredibly sexist.

More likely, they’re simply the very same liberal talking points that won President Obama reelection a few short months ago.  I don’t know how many otherwise intelligent human beings I spoke with in the weeks leading up to Election Day who said they were voting against Romney because he “hates women.”

Really, people?  Apparently Obama’s smear campaign worked.  Hats off, Mr. President.  You brought electoral politics to a level normally reserved for MTV reality television.

More to the point, Democrats keep making the argument that the HHS mandate to require all health plans to cover—at no charge to the customer—contraceptives and abortion drugs should trump the religious freedom of anyone and everyone, and in particular those pesky Christians.  And if you disagree with that, then, well, it should trump your freedom of speech too.

In other words, the “right” to free contraception and taxpayer-funded abortion is the only absolute, infallible right to Democrats.  The ability to stave off, or kill future offspring is unquestionable.  And if you dare mention the word abstinence, you’re simply an antiquated simpleton.

Never mind that, while the “right” to abortion on demand is nowhere to be found in the U.S. Constitution, religious freedoms are enumerated in the Bill of Rights—that whole First Amendment that Democrats are loathe to recognize, unless, of course, it benefits them.  That about sums up a liberal’s take on our nation’s most sacred founding document: ignore the parts you don’t like, and go to court to fabricate parts you want inserted.

Yet of all the judicially created “rights” over the years, apparently none is more sacred than abortion.  After all, it’s the only choice Democrats actually want you to make.  God forbid you make the choice to drink a twenty ounce soda.

Oh, God reference.  Many apologies to my liberal overlords.
