Ohio’s top Democrats trash measure they already voted in favor of

A portion of Gov. John Kasich’s budget includes a dedicated stream of funding (the first of its kind) specifically set aside for rape crisis centers in Ohio to help rape victims. A provision in the bill requires centers that receive public funds to not advise victims to get abortions, which has drawn criticism from some on the left.

Rape crisis centers, however, have publicly expressed their gratitude for the much needed funds to help survivors of sexual abuse.

But none of that has stopped Ohio’s top Democrats from criticizing it.

Ohio Democratic Party Chairman (and State Rep.) Chris Redfern and State Rep. Connie Pillich, (also a candidate for state treasurer) unleashed a swarm of posts on their social media pages critical of the measure.

But here’s where the hypocrisy meter hits the ceiling: Redfern and Pillich (to paraphrase John Kerry) were for it before they were against it. Both voted in favor of a bill with the EXACT SAME LANGUAGE two weeks ago.

House Bill 108 containing the rape counseling funding provision passed UNANIMOUSLY on June 16 with Redfern, Pillich and all of their fellow Democrats in the Ohio House voting “YES.”

Even the Associated Press couldn’t help but point out the Democrats’ flop.
