George Santos, NY Rep-Elect admits to fabricating parts of his resume

George Santos, a newly elected Republican representative from New York, admitted to the New York Post that he has lied on his resume. This comes a week after his attorney claimed questions about his background were intended “to smear his good name”.

In November, Santos’ efforts flipped a House seat for the GOP, making him representative-elect for sections of Long Island and Queens.

Santos claimed to have worked at both Citigroup and Goldman Sachs. He also said he had attended Baruch College in New York. He admits these were untruths.

There are additional questions as to whether he is Jewish, as he has claimed, or even gay. He says he is Catholic and records show he had been married to a woman until just a few years ago.

“I am not a criminal… This will not deter me from having good legislative success. I will be effective. I will be good,” he said regarding his plan to take his seat in the 118th Congress.

Santos apologized and expressed embarrassment for having “embellished” his resume. “I own up to that … We do stupid things in life.”
