Recently a group of citizen journalists from EmpowerU and other Ohio organizations visited the border town of McAllen, Texas (near Brownsville). The purpose of the trip, sponsored by Americans for Prosperity Ohio, was to observe firsthand the current conditions at this border town and report their findings to their communities so citizens can have informed conversations on the topic with Ohio’s leaders, family and friends. Citizen journalists will report their findings in a virtual presentation hosted by EmpowerU.
You can join the virtual class presentation from the comfort of your living room on June 27 from 7 to 8:30 pm. Registration is required.
In the event announcement, EmpowerU says that every town in the United States is now a border town, and for now many migrants will be coming to Ohio and staying in Ohio. It is important that we look at the border problem and try to understand it. With limited news coverage of the conditions at the border, this trip was sponsored by Americans for Prosperity Ohio to give a group of Ohioans the opportunity to see and explore the conditions at the southern border firsthand and report back to their communities.
Participants will report on their visit to the physical border, show pictures and videos taken, and introduce you to key leaders in the area. They will also discuss their visit with Catholic Charities to examine the humanitarian implications of not securing the border.
Participants will share what they witnessed and their thoughts about the border situation.

About the EmpowerUAmerica
EmpowerUAmerica is a non-profit organization founded in 2010 by Dan Regenold, founder and CEO of Frame USA. Regenold’s vision was to create a free university in the Greater Cincinnati area to empower people through information and education. EmpowerUAmerica hosts about 40 guest speakers per year who present classes on current topics related to education, politics, history, and government. In the spring of 2015 Regenold turned a storage room at Frame USA into a studio that seats 100 people with state of the art audio visual equipment. Classes can be attended in person at EmpowerU Studio in Springdale, OH or live streamed.
