Obama endorses Fisher.

Ok, not really.

But he might as well have.

Today, David Plouffe, the President’s chief campaign manager in 2008 announced his endorsement of Lee Fisher for Senate.

Why is this significant? Well, we all know the White House can’t endorse in a competitive primary, and the DSCC has learned its lesson from watching the Republicans mess up their Florida primary race – so if the Obama Administration wants to make a move to indicate who it would prefer as the nominee, Plouffe is not only the most likely, but the only choice to do so.

Indicating the President’s preference in a race this high-profile is incredibly helpful for Fisher when it comes to building momentum in the primary.

But with the President’s support, the Democratic establishment has effectively eliminated any possibility for Brunner to raise any significant amounts of cash. In addition, it will make it that much more difficult for Brunner to implement any kind of grassroots campaign when Organizing for America is either sitting this one out or helping Fisher.

So there it is.

Yet another nail in the coffin that contains Jennifer Brunner’s Senate campaign.
