Anyone who’s paying attention to the shutdown knows just how vindictive President Barack Obama is. Whether its closing open-air monuments to World War II veterans or kicking folks out of their private homes, there’s nothing that Obama won’t do to make sure that this shutdown is as painful to the American public as possible.
But I would have never thought Obama would go to the extreme of shutting down the website dedicated to helping find missing children. If you go to AmberAlert.gov, you’ll get this result:
This is not necessary. Other parts of the DOJ website are up and running. It would be just as easy to keep AmberAlert.gov online.
This is straight up disgusting. Our President is willing to put the lives of missing children at risk to achieve a political victory. Someone needs to tell Obama that there are some things in life that are just more important than scoring political points.
Fortunately, this will not and cannot play well in the media, so eventually Obama’s politically smart choice of putting AmberAlert.gov back online will align with the humanly decent thing. It’s sad that only then will Obama do the right thing.
America deserves better.
UPDATE: CNN Chief Washington Correspondent Jake Tapper has reported that AmberAlert.gov is back up and running. Apparently Obama realized using missing children as political pawns wasn’t scoring him any points with the American people.
