The Morning-Journal posted a blistering editorial tearing into Marcy Kaptur and Betty Sutton today:
If you see Betty Sutton or Marcy Kaptur at a re-election campaign event, ask them why they’re not in Washington taking care of the people’s business instead of hustling votes at home. You could ask the same of Sen. Sherrod Brown, too.
Congress had originally planned to go on recess this Friday to allow members to return home to campaign for their seats. But Democratic leaders decided to call off controversial votes on extending Bush-era tax cuts and President Obama’s latest spending requests and both chambers voted to adjourn from Sept. 29 until after the November elections.
The measure to adjourn was vigorously opposed by Republicans and moderate Democrats. It passed the House by one vote — Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s — after 39 Democrats joined Republicans in voting no.
Bailing out with yes votes were Lorain County’s two Democratic members of Congress, Sutton representing the 13th District, and Kaptur the 9th District, They were joined on this “roll call of shame” by Northeast Ohio representatives Dennis Kucinich, D-10; Marcia Fudge, D-11; John Boccieri, D-16; Tim Ryan, D-17, and Democrat Brown, Ohio’s junior U.S. senator.
Representatives Sutton and Kaptur, along with the rest of Ohio’s congressional “roll call of shame,” have shown themselves to be unaccountable, and voters should show them the door on Nov. 2.
