Production to Begin on The Passion of the Christ Sequel

This spring the long-awaited sequel to Mel Gibson’s 2004 The Passion of the Christ is set to begin production. The film has been in development for 10 years.

With the original film taking in over $612 million dollars, there are hopes a sequel will do the same.

Actor Jim Caviezel returns in the role of Jesus in The Passion of the Christ: Resurrection. Also reprising their roles are Francesco De Vito as Peter, Maia Morgenstern as Mary, and Christo Jivkov as John.

Gibson has previously discussed his desire to develop the story properly and bring in the right people, including writer-director Randall Wallace.

Wallace wanted to tell the story and do it well. He has a background in faith-based projects with his film Heaven is for Real released in 2015. He’s also worked with Gibson on other projects such as Hacksaw Ridge.

Wallace hopes for success with Resurrection saying, “the evangelical community considers ‘The Passion’ the biggest movie ever out of Hollywood, and they kept telling us that they think a sequel will be even bigger.”
